Goals:
One goal of this particular internship was to determine if dentistry could be an ideal career fit for me, and if so, what specialties I might consider in the future.
The other primary goal set at the beginning of the internship was for me to begin to comprehend the role that the science and engineering fields play in dentistry.
Conclusion:
Something I learned over the course of the internship is that the important thing in choosing a career is to find something that will make me happy and willing to go to work every day. Having thoroughly enjoyed the dental aspect of the internship, I’m still thinking of pursuing a dentistry career for the time being, but I know that I will remain open to other possibilities.
As far as the sciences go, I now recognize even more the integral part that chemistry plays in etching and bonding agents and orthodontic bonds, as well as the engineering in orthodontics. Also, biology is present anywhere from general dentistry to periodontics and oral surgery.
